Thee Negative Way
In the 4th Century, the Cappadocian Fathers offered their world view on questions, which cannot be answered. For example, they proclaimed that, while they believed in God, they did not believe that God exists. They believed that one should describe the nature of God by focusing on what God is not, rather than what God is. Since God is so far beyond human understanding and experience, the only hope we have of getting close to the nature of God is to list all His negative features; therefore, we cannot say that God exists because existence is a human notion and as such it may not apply to God. It exists.
It’s not the universe.
It’s not a galaxy.
It’s not the solar system.
It’s not the sun.
It’s not the moon.
It’s not the earth.
It’s not the water.
It’s not the soil.
It’s not inanimate.
It’s not fish, flesh, or fowl.
It’s not a tree.
It’s not a vegetable.
It’s not a sour fruit.
It’s not any sweet fruit other colored blue.
It must be a blueberry.
It’s not a blueberry.
It’s not any other sweet fruit.

It’s not a vegetable.
It’s not a tree.
It’s not fish, flesh or fowl.

It’s not the universe.
It doesn’t exist.
It must be the First Cause who was, who is, and who will be.
